    Fort Union National Monument is open daily except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

    We are currently operating during WINTER HOURS.

    Winter Hours: Labor Day to Memorial Day 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

    Summer Hours: Memorial Day to Labor Day 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM



    There is NO FEE to enter Fort Union National Monument. Enjoy your visit!

    If you plan to visit other parks with an entrance fee, learn more about the America the Beautiful - National Parks and Federal Recreational Land Pass and fee-free days in the national parks.

    The park does issue the Annual 4th Grade Pass. For more information about how your 4th grader can print the necessary voucher for this pass, visit our Fee & Passes page or the Every Kid in a Park website.



    Fort Union National Monument is located in the northeastern portion of New Mexico eight miles off Interstate 25 on New Mexico State Highway161.

    By Car:

    From Albuquerque (156 miles), Santa Fe (94 miles) or Las Vegas, NM (28 miles) take I-25 north, exit 366 at Watrous, 8 miles on NM 161.

    From Denver (313 miles), Colorado Springs (243 miles) or Raton (95 miles) take I-25 south, exit 366 at Watrous, 8 miles on NM 161.

    By Plane:

    No public airports are located in the immediate vicinity of Fort Union National Monument. The two closest public airports are:

    Albuquerque International Sunport (152 miles South/Southwest from the monument)

    Denver International Airport (329 Miles North from the monument)
